I've actually picked up a couple, weird cause it's something that I rarely do now (sorry to say) But my sister-in-law, Heidi has inspired me. Somehow between going back and forth between Santa Barbara and Aliso Viejo for work, being a mother to 7 year old twins, and having her love in Las Vegas, she manages to read a lot! When I asked her how she found the time, she said that reading was her passion and she makes time to fit it in every chance she gets (even reading in the shower) Hmmm, maybe I should try a little? All this sewing (all the time) is gonna make me a dull girl. So, I saw a book on the coffee table that caught my attention " A child called It" after reading the back I put it down. It's the story of one of the worst cases of child abuse in California's history. No...I wanna start off with something a little lighter, please. Of course, I ended up reading a few pages when Devon was napping and got sucked in. This child was stabbed, choked, forced to eat feces, poisoned and never got fed meals. Somehow he survives it all...but this goes on for YEARS. Heidi and I just have to wonder "What was wrong with people in the 70's"??? I mean, how can this child's teachers, classmates and neighbors not intervene? This kid wasn't even fed! You would think a starved child that's forced to wear the same clothing everyday, and covered in bruises would be a concern at school? Of course now it's the extreme opposite. For example, Heidi was telling me about a guy that had his children taken away from him because of an innocent photo that he took of them playing in the bath tub! Anyways, I ended up reading the whole book in a couple days. First time I've done that in years. Now I'm finishing up another book that Heidi lent me "The Most Beautiful Book In The World" It's a collection of eight novellas (perfect for those like me who struggle to find time to read) I REALLY liked this one, it's perfectly bittersweet. But I don't want to spoil it for anyone so I'll leave it at that. The next book in line? "Goddesses, Whores, Wives, and Slaves" (Women in classical antiquity)
Devon's current favorite read is much larger than she is and called "My Fairy Princess Palace" It's a pop-up book with paper dolls. She's really into making them take naps in their little fairy beds (she makes snoring noises for them) and having them eat from their pop-up custom kitchen (yum-yum noises here)

Neighbor from Hell
I'm sorry that this posting is so far from my norm. It's something that has been sort of upsetting me lately, so I figured that writing about it would help. Very early this morning (around 3am) I was awakened by the vicious screaming of profanities from my downstairs neighbor. This being the 5th time that this has happened in a matter of two months! It continues on (for usually) about 2 or 3 hours. His voice being the one most clearly heard, as he screams on and on about how she's ruining his life..or "**CK! **CK!**CK! I'm not going through this again!" Then I hear her crying and glass breaking. It's all very alarming and upsetting, to say the least. Thankfully, Isaac and Devon always manage to sleep blissfully through it all (I'm just the light sleeper, I suppose?) Lucky me:(
The reason I'm certain that its' my downstairs neighbor is because the last time this happened, I grabbed my robe and snuck out the door...following the screaming until I zeroed in on the culprit. My neighbor directly beneath us. Then I went back home and called the police.
Ironically, this is the same exact guy who accused Isaac and I of child abuse last Fall! Devon was throwing one of those temper tantrums that nothing can solve. About 10 minutes into it, we get a knock on our front door. Surprise! It's our downstairs neighbor. He and Isaac go out into the hallway, and I hear them start to exchange some heated remarks as I'm finally starting to get Devon to calm down inside our unit. Isaac told me that he actually had the audacity to accuse us of child abuse and even threatened to call the police on us! One week later, he actually does this (at 2am) while Devon and I are watching TV together (her sleeping schedule had gone out of whack the way that babies schedules often do) The police actually apologised to me, since it was obvious that there was no abuse going on.
Later, I bump into our "neighbor from hell" in the laundry room. I told him that I couldn't believe that he would be so quick to assume the worst of someone whom he had never even met before! He actually attempted to try and tell me that he hadn't accused us of child abuse and that Isaac was a liar! "DO NOT EVER CALL MY HUSBAND A LIAR!" I didn't shout, but made it very apparent that I was totally upset and turned away from him to finish my laundry. But I could see him from my peripheral...just staring at me until I left the room...creepy!
No wonder he was so quick to assume the worst of others when he's "Mr. Domestic Violence" in the flesh. I didn't call the cops last night because I was too tired...drifting in and out of sleep ...getting awakened 3 more times until his screams finally subsided around 6am. What a way to start the day!

~ Highest Energy Bills EVER at American Beauty Mill Lofts ~
Anyone planning on moving to the Dallas area and craving the look of an industrial space would think that the American Beauty Mill Lofts would be the perfect solution. It definitely has it's appeal, formally an old flour mill built in 1920, Isaac and I fell in love (especially with the view from our bedroom window) a perfect shot of the Dallas skyline. Little did we know that it would turn out to be an energy nightmare.
Before moving in we were told to expect an energy bill of around $200.00 per month (already pretty pricey, but we knew that a larger space would cost more to heat and cool, so we were willing to cope with the increased cost) especially since the rent was so much cheaper in Dallas then what we were used to coming from Southern California. We moved to Dallas mid month in August and (not being used to such extreme weather ) we had the air conditioner constantly running. Our bill ended up being the expected (about $195.00) Imagine our surprise when the weather turned cold and our bill for the month jumped to $350.00! Wow! We were shocked! but discovered that our filter was incredibly dirty, therefore causing the heater to have to work twice as hard to heat the space. We changed the filter and set the temperature at 65. We were cold, but layered up in sweaters and dealt with it. The next bill came in ...$840.00!!!OMG! there must be some mistake (is what we immediately thought and everyone else that we told about our situation thought too). We called the energy company and had them come out to do a meter reread. We had the maintenance man come and shut off the power to see if someone was tapping into our power source. Then we found out that other people in the building that had corner units experienced double and triple increases to their energy bills as well, and as a result, were moving out. One family had a bill of over $500.00 while another (that only used space heaters and never ran the central heating) only had a bill of $50.00!
"I don't know what to tell you, unfortunately these corner units have no insulation at all" is what the maintenance man told me after I had him come and check out our heater for the second time. Our bill for this month was over $600.oo. Which brings our energy bill to over $1,400 for two months. BTW, I've barely run the heater at all. I actually wake up at night if I hear the heater go on. I'm freezing, but so terrified of the energy bill, I'll turn the temp from an already chilly 65 to 60 degrees. It doesn't make any sense, even with horrible insulation, that the bill should jump from $195 (in the Summer with the air conditioner constantly running) to $840.00 for heating when we keep the temp so low that we have to wear socks and sweaters! Also, there is no way that American Beauty Mill could not have known that certain units in the building were heating nightmares! We should have been informed! We would have NEVER moved here had we known about this situation. RENTERS BEWARE!

~ Thinking about Jenny ~
Recently, Devon's developed a certain fondness for elephants... her new favorite toy is a squirty elephant for the bathtub, she LOVED "Horton Hears a Who," and if I ask her to point at an elephant in a book, she always gets it right (ducks too)
But all this talk of elephants got me thinking about Jenny again, the elephant from the Dallas Zoo. When I first saw her, I did not know about the huge controversy surrounding this poor creature. I remember I was so excited to see the elephant exhibit (this past September) but when I saw her backed into the corner of her small enclosure, rocking back and forth repeatedly (maybe to relieve boredom) but to me it looked more like she was trying to comfort herself... to me, she looked very lonely in there and it made me so sad.
My sister was the one who first told me about Keke (Jenny's companion that had died this past May) this prompted the Dallas Zoo to make a decision to send Jenny to Africam Safari Park in Puebla, Mexico. She was to roam freely on 5 acres of land that she would share with a future female companion. Sounds great to me, but this decision sparked opposition to Jenny's move by animal rights groups such as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. They raised concerns that Mexico does not have the same animal welfare standards as the United States and also questioned the construction and the cars traveling through Africam. Also, opponents have said there are signs the three Asian elephants at Africam are in distress. This was the result of a video taken that shows them swaying back and forth – an indication of "depression in elephants, loneliness and frustration," (Which is exactly what I saw Jenny doing) They urged council members to send her instead to a 2,700-acre sanctuary in Tennessee where 17 other traumatized elephants are kept in seclusion.
But now it seems that the Dallas Zoo plans to keep Jenny right where she is. Plans are underway to build a larger $10 million dollar elephant habitat that could house as many as four elephants. This new habitat, part of a $40 million dollar African Savanna exhibit, will be completed in spring 2010 rather than mid-2012 as planned. Meanwhile, the AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums) is helping Dallas Zoo officials identify a new companion for Jenny. Supposedly officials were eager to have the new elephant in the zoo by November (in an article I read from this past August, however it seems that Jenny still does not have a companion) I hope I'm wrong... it would mean that Jenny has been sitting alone in that small enclosure (said to measure less than a quarter of an acre) for 8 months now. My wish for Jenny is that they find her a companion ASAP! It would make even living in that small space much more enjoyable for her until she can finally move.

~ The End Of Our Age ~
According to the Ancient Mayan Calendar 12-21-2012 marks the day for the end of our Age into another. This calendar has been eerily accurate throughout time.
"The Mayan civilization of Central America was and is the most advanced in relation to time-science knowledge. Their main calendar is the most accurate on the planet. It has never erred. The Mayan fifth world finished in 1987. The sixth world starts in 2012. So we are currently "between worlds"
1. Humanity and Planet Earth are currently going through a huge change or shift in consciousness and reality perception.
2. The Mayan civilization of Central America was and is the most advanced in relation to time-science knowledge. Their main calendar is the most accurate on the planet. It has never erred. They actually have 22 calendars in total, covering the many timing cycles in the Universe and Solar System. Some of these calendars are yet to be revealed.
3. The Mayan fifth world finished in 1987. The sixth world starts in 2012. So we are currently "between worlds". This time is called the "Apocalypse" or revealing. This means the real truth will be revealed. It is also the time for us to work through "our stuff" individually and collectively.
4. The Mayan sixth world is actually blank. This means it is up to us, as co-creators, to start creating the new world and civilization we want now.
5. The Mayans also say that by 2012we will have gone beyond technology as we know it.we will have gone beyond time and money.we will have entered the fifth dimension after passing through the fourth dimension Planet Earth and the Solar System will come into galactic synchronization with the rest of the Universe. Our DNA will be "upgraded" (or reprogrammed) from the centre of our galaxy. (Hunab Ku)Everybody on this planet is mutating. Some are more conscious of it than others. But everyone is doing it.
6. In 2012 the plane of our Solar System will line up exactly with the plane of our Galaxy, the Milky Way. This cycle has taken 26,000 years to complete. Virgil Armstrong also says that two other galaxies will line up with ours at the same time. A cosmic event!
7. Time is speeding up (or collapsing). For thousands of years the Schumann Resonance or pulse (heartbeat) of Earth has been 7.83 cycles per second, The military have used this as a very reliable reference. However, since 1980 this resonance has been slowly rising. It is now over 12 cycles per second! This means there is the equivalent of less than 16 hours per day instead of the old 24 hours.
8. During the Apocalypse or the time "between worlds" many people will be going through many personal changes. The changes will be many and varied. It is all part of what we came here to learn or experience. Examples of change could be- relationships coming to an end, change of residence or location, change of job or work, shift in attitude or thinking etc."What is so special about the Mayan Calendar?

On 2012 when the plane of our solar system lines up with the plane of our galaxy, the earths polarity will reverse, causing extreme cataclysmic events. It is said that the answer to resetting the earths polarity is the discovery and realignment of the 13 ancient skulls
"One of archaeology's most compelling mysteries is that of the 13 Crystal Skulls. Skulls have been one of the most powerful objects of symbolism in human history, all over the world. Several "perfect" crystal Skulls have been found in parts of Mexico, Central and South America.
Together, they form a mystery as enigmatic as the Nazca Lines, the Great Pyramids and Stonehenge. These skulls are believed to be between 5000 and 35000 years old. During early expeditions, archaeologists were told by locals that the skulls possessed magical powers and healing properties. However, people were unsure as to where they came from, or even why they existed. Some like to believe that these were remains from the lost civilization of Atlantis.
Others like to believe these are fakes. And yet another group of psychics believe that these skulls have the capability to enable us to look into the past, present and future. Historians and social anthropologists decided to find out more about the strange skulls. Very soon, they came across an ancient Indian legend saying that there had been thirteen crystal skulls of the Goddess of Death; they had been kept separately from each other under the strict control of pagan priests and special warriors."
"Where did these skulls come from?" and "Why do they exist?" There are countless hypotheses that they are the legacy of some higher intelligence. Many believe they were created by extraterrestrials or beings in Atlantis. Yet another theory maintains that these skulls together contain a history of mankind. Also, as mentioned earlier, local legends say that these were given by the Goddess of Death. The most obvious theory links these to Mayans, although the Aztecs are a more formidable candidate for this, since a lot of their artwork as well as religious symbols featured skulls. In addition, they were the finest known crystal sculptors.
Some believe that “The ancient Crystal Skulls are the computers of the ancients, they contain important information that help humanity to pass through it current series of challenges to take us into a Golden Age.”, and “They were a powerful tool for healing the body, mind, and spirit, by ancient civilizations such as the Mayans or the Atlanteans”Or perhaps these skulls are somehow linked to the "Year Zero" or December 21, 2012, the date at which the Mayan Calendar ends.
But what if mankind cannot stray from the path of self-destruction? Would that mean that the world as we know it really would end in less than 5 short years? That would mean that Devon would never have the chance to grow into an adult. My husband, Isaac said "at least she will only know LOVE" It made me feel slightly better to think that (if the worst did happen) she would never have her heart broken, that she would always retain her childlike wonder, fascination, and exuberance with life. Which is unfortunately something that we all lose a little of when we become "responsible adults"
Of course, while it still makes me incredibly sad to think that it all could end so soon, we all know that eventually everyone that we love one day will die. Whether it happens all at once as the result of some cataclysmic event, or by old age..it's gonna happen.
Which is why it is so important to live every single day to its fullest, as if it were the last day of your life (because you never really know!) and the present time is the only time there is :)
"The Hopi and Mayan elders do not prophesy that everything will come to an end. Rather, this is a time of transition from one World Age into another. The message they give concerns our making a choice of how we enter the future ahead. Our moving through with either resistance or acceptance will determine whether the transition will happen with cataclysmic changes or gradual peace and tranquility. The same theme can be found reflected in the prophecies of many other Native American visionaries from Black Elk to Sun Bear."
