The Trumbos

This precious creature is Miss Ella Fritzgerald, part of the beautiful family of Isaac and Beck Trumbo.
An amazing photographer and model/stylist duo, of whom I've had the great pleasure and fortune of
reconnecting with (thank you, Facebook) Isaac shot my current women's collection on Beck, which
just went up on our new site: leathertongue.net

This couple makes such a creative and talented team, I literally just sent them the clothing. They
did everything else, and it turned out just like I wanted....AMAZING!!! Hanging out with them again
was as if no time had passed (even though it had been 10 years) Devon LOVED them so much that
she shed big tears when we parted ways. Hope to see them again soon:)

Shopping and Sunday

bobby 1
We didn't do too much Black Friday shopping, except some great deals on underwear, a couple cute sets of footie pjs, this really cute vintage piece, and a hamster. She named him "Bobby." Shown above is actually the orginal Bobby (who sadly ended up being extremly agressive) so meet Bobby #2 who's much, much tinier (so biting is not at all scarey but in fact, rather endearing... or at least to me)
bobby
She's very happy with him, so we've spent a great Sunday together playing with her new friend and shooting some new pieces for our Etsy. You can view them here and here:)

DevonRose is back!

I finally reopened our children's Etsy today, but I have to apologise that there are no new items listed yet. I'm in the middle of producing a wholesale order that should be completed around the weekend of May 7th. Afterwards, I've purchased some great new knits that I can't wait to make into summer rompers, leggings, and I've even got a little swimsuit coming soon! This is Mango the house cat, she always keeps me company when I'm cutting and sewing. We'll be moving again soon (mid May) but not far away, and it's temporary too (we'll be moving AGAIN in July...geeeez!) Anyways, I'm gonna miss her...

Meet the new Mr. Boo

I'm very sad to report that the original Mr. Boo Boo (the goldfish) didn't make it. I'm not really sure what happened, one day he was swimming around happily and then.....not. I figured something more cuddly would be a better choice this time, and "Boo Boo" (apparently Devon REALLY likes that name) seems to fit this guy much better, as he has a huge chunk missing from his ear (you can see it in the middle pic) The former owners had bought Boo from a breeder along with another buck and (even though they had been neutered) they started to fight once they had matured (hence the missing chunk) but Mr. Boo is a lover, not a fighter with everyone else. Devon loves to give him lots of kisses and carrots:)

Mega Muse

Devon and I had a blast shooting these new OOAK items for our shop today. She ran around finding props like flowers and blowing kisses at me while peeking around light posts...
I saw this beautiful rosebud tree, and thought it would make such a lovely backdrop for our Geisha Garden Dress. So, I carefully placed her in a strategic spot and (since she ended up getting mud in her sandal) she walked right out of the shot immediately, and wasn't game to try it again. Fortunately, I was able to capture the shot and her inspection of the muddy sandal caused her to strike this great little pose (sometimes I get lucky)
But, my favorite part of today was when she decided that jumping up and down would be the best way to model our Yellow Rose Loungers...what a natural:)

Pointelle set and pet

Here's a little update on kids stuff:
I just shipped a size run of our organic pointelle sets to Little Bean Shop.
They look great layered with pretty, floral cotton dresses...perfect for transition into Spring (which I'm finally beginning to sew on now for our Etsy Shop)
Look for Devon Rose's reopening at the end of the month:)
A little family update:
Devon wanted everyone to meet her new friend...Boo Boo!

Billy Bones

Billy Bones came from a shelter in Oakland. I saw him on craiglist and we both fell in love with those ears. Just so happens that he's a Corgi/Pomeranian mix. Funny cause Isaac's dog (growing up) was half Corgi and mine was a Pomeranian. I don't really mention him nearly as much as Bik Wu. I guess mainly because he's always been closer to Isaac, so we decided that Billy was his and I got Bik. He's a great dog, though. Very patient and loving, perfect for Devon to take her first dog walk with (I walked Bik Wu to get Billy to follow right along) It was so cute to watch! She held the leash the whole time. I'm thinking it's the answer to our daily walk problem (Devon is distracted by EVERYTHING) But not today, she was very focused about keeping control of the leash. When we got back home, she took the leash off Billy's collar, threw up her arms and said "YAY"!

Trying to recapture a moment

Our computer crashed the other day, leaving us with having to reinstall Windows, and then losing thousands of pictures of Devon in the process. I'm so upset about that, I can only compare it to a fire (although I know it's actually nowhere near as devastating) Anyways, I was lucky enough to have already picked the majority of the best pictures from all of the hundreds of photo shoots that I've done of Devon. Thank god I have this blog and an Etsy!
I was mainly bummed about losing some of the shots that I was lucky enough to capture of Devon with the dogs. I've been trying to get that perfect one since Devon could walk..... oh why didn't I leave them in the camera for just one more day?!?
I had one of Devon hugging Bik Wu. Huge smile, you could see both of their faces...similar expressions.. GOLD!...gone...
Of course, I got one of her giving Billy a kiss on the nose.....gone too!
Oh well, what's done is done. I tried my very best to recreate that moment. Same little outfit, dogs in the same places...although this time it was a little forced...I'd have to say.

Happy Trails

Devon's first nature walk, at the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park! She mostly rode on Isaac's shoulders since the trails were pretty steep in most places (and she tended to want to wander over into every rocky area, looking for little caves to play in) It reminded me of how Isaac and I used to take walks together (with the doggies) every morning. Living in Dallas was never really conducive to our exercise routine...too hot and since we lived in a totally industrial area, no place to walk. We decided to make this a weekly habit, and why not? There's tons of nature walks to be had everywhere you look. Laguna Niguel is beautiful! This park is 5 minutes away from our house and has amazing views. The doggies can't come with, but I found another trail that's literally a block away just for them (doggie bag dispenser and trash can sit neatly at the trails entrance)

~ Thanksgiving For You (and poochie too) ~

Little Pie's tiny turkey treats for your best friend:
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=sr_list_12&listing_id=17774833

Here's the dish I'm making for Thanksgiving (a nice alternative to your usual mashed potatoes) and can be made 1 day ahead:

Sweet Potato and Apple Puree

2 1/2 pounds red-skinned sweet potatoes (yams), peeled, cut into 1-inch cubes
1 medium onion, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
1/4 cup olive oil
1 teaspoon fine sea salt
1/2 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 1/2 pounds Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, cut into 1 inch cubes
1/2 cup heavy whipping cream

Preheat oven to 350F. Toss first 6 ingredients into large bowl. Transfer mixture into 13x9x2-inch glass baking dish. Cover with foil: bake until vegetables are almost soft, about 40 minutes. Mix in apples. Cover and bake until sweet potatoes and apples are very tender, about 30 minutes longer. Cool slightly.

Transfer mixture to processor and puree until smooth. Transfer to microwave safe bowl. Cover and chill.

Stir cream into sweet potato apple puree. Microwave on high until heated through, about 4 minutes. Serve hot.

~ Bik Wu's New Do ~

The little lion is back! Bik Wu is always such a mess, it was getting to the point where I hardly wanted him around Devon at all. A much needed trip to the groomers fixed that problem. What a little tough guy! You can barely see our other dog, Billy (behind Devon) I could'nt get him to stop cleaning himself, which is why he got to stay home while Bik was at the groomers all day.

~ For the Love of Dog ~

I wanted to share with you some great Etsy boutiques that I've discovered that specifically cater to your furry best friends (shown above are our guys, Bik Wu and Billy) Wanna show 'em you care? "Little Pies" was born from the love of a chocolate Lab named Molly Brown Truffles.

Little Pies creates all natural, handmade, organic doggie treats in super cute shapes! My personal favorites are the "Secret Squirrels"

you can also check out their blog for new products, ideas, and upcoming shows at the Brown Dog Blog http://thebrowndogblog.vox.com/

If your little guy is more of an "active, athletic" type then maybe he would better appreciate the time that he can spend with you tossing about great handmade toys in the park :)
RescueMeTugz offers a great selection of handmade dog balls, tug toys, squeaker toys, and chew rings. The really awesome thing about RescueMeTugz is that all proceeds are donated to Great Dane Rescues! RescueMeTugz is currently working on helping Dante at Heartland Great Dane Rescue. Please read his story at http://www.heartlandgdr.org/.
