~ New Life ~

First of all, I must apologize as I have been horrible about keeping up with posts this month. We've only been in Dallas for 2 weeks now and are still adjusting to our new environment.

We love our new loft, but currently have zero furniture (which makes it a little difficult to get motivated for sewing) My mother was kind enough to lend me her sewing machine (until I can get mine out of storage) but I have no table and chair to use it. So, Devon and I have been spending our days here hanging out with my sister, my niece and shopping and eating...tough huh?

The food here is amazing! If you or your friends are ever in the Dallas Metroplex, be sure to check out these restaurants:

~ Happy Birthday, Baby! ~

I hope your having a happy birthday :) I love you more every day and even though we tend to be super sensitive with each other about alot of things it is also one of the traits that binds us. I'm so lucky to have finally found you, the person who understands and loves me more than anyone in the world.

I love you, baby... forever 2x

~ A Room with a View ~

If you can imagine it, you can have it, Emily. This is the name of the game. This is the lesson to learn. It couldn't be any easier. Reality is not what your eyes show your mind, but what your mind creates for your eyes to see. You are not limited by logic, the past, or the world around you. You are not even of the world around you. You are supernatural, pure spirit. You came first. Magic, miracles, and luck are the consequences of understanding this, the inevitable result of dreaming and acting in spite of appearances.

You are ever so close. Simply stay the course. It won't be very much longer.
~ The Universe

So here it is! The view from our new loft in Dallas, Texas and it is exactly the view that I had imagined. Totally industrial, Isaac had said that he wanted a more creative space and this is the perfect solution. The building was an old flour mill and is perfectly located for easy access to the train, has a beautiful rooftop pool, and a fully loaded fitness room. It will be so much easier to keep an eye on Devon in one huge room and we are super excited to be able to redecorate a completely new space. We will be starting over from scratch. The only things that we'll be bringing with us are the essentials...clothing, TV, DVD, etc. We had been longing for a change, ready to get out of this rut and start over. So here it goes..new living space, new stuff, new city, new state, new job, new outlook, brand new life :)

~ Here, There and Everywhere ~

Devon's totally mobile now, cruising all over the house. She crawls like a little spider with one leg bent and the other sticking straight out. It sounds strange, but she's definitely perfected it and moves fast! Her favorite place to have an adventure is the bathroom. It's where she can check herself out in the mirror and she can spend hours doing that if I would let her (she also has a weird obsession with the vacuum)

Devon's becoming quite mischievous! I'll constantly catch her pulling herself up to the top shelf of the entertainment center (which rolls out to reveal the DVD player) It's a definite "no no" and she completely understands "no" and also responds to "Devon." She'll put a pudgy hand on the edge of the shelf, roll it out and then turn her head to look for me...."Devon, what are you doing? You know you're not suppose to do that!" then she'll throw the most mischievous little smirk, drop to the floor and starts it all over again, just to see what she can get away with. It's hilarious and annoying at the same time.

~ Change Of Plans ~

As spontaneously as we moved to L.A. from San Francisco, so are we moving from L.A. to Dallas. Instead of leaving in the winter as planned, certain events have unfolded to reveal a new date of July 31st...18 days! Crazy.

The anticipation of beginning our completely new life in Dallas makes this an extremely exciting (but also stressful) time. So, I am currently finishing up some custom orders for our Etsy boutique to ship at the end of the week and then I must shift all attention to our move... as it's a big one! Once we have settled in, I'll start production on Devon's Fall line that will post in mid- September. Everything will be new (even the avatar) so make sure to check back then :)

~ Dallas Bound ~

It's official, we are moving to Dallas! This will (most likely) happen by late December, early January. Winter is the perfect time to move to a city like Dallas. I'll finally be able to open that store with my sister (that we've been discussing forever!) and we'll be closer to my parents (that I never get to see) as well.

Isaac and I have been checking out houses every day on craigslist. There are so many super cute options with way more space. Devon will have so much room to grow (which is perfect because she is getting huge!) I can't wait to take Isaac to all the places that I remember and loved there. It's been 10 years, and alot has changed but I know Isaac and Devon will love it:)

~ A Few Of My Favorite Things ~

Everyday, Devon and I take walks thru the neighborhood. It's always a relaxing and beautiful time for us. We love to look at all the cute little cottages, trees and flowers. It's as close to nature as we can get everyday.

And as it gets closer and closer to the time when we will be leaving Los Angeles behind, I want to be able to fully appreciate some of it's better qualities. Isaac and I have never really been big fans of L.A. but we want to be able to think back to our time in Southern California with fond memories.

So I decided that from today until the day that we leave , I will make it my mission to find at least one thing a day (about LA) that makes us smile and capture it to share with Devon when we remember back to the time and the place where she was born.

~ Too Hot for Clothes ~

Heat Wave! Yuck! It's been way too hot to think about making clothes (or even wearing them for that matter) Devon's lucky enough to be able to hang out all day in nothing but diaper while I get to sweat it out. This whole "no air conditioning thing" is not going to cut it..meanwhile, I'm dreaming of swimming pools and strawberry icee's.

21.6.08

~ I Love Custom Orders ~

I love doing custom work for clients thru Etsy. Here is the top that I just completed for Leigh who has a boutique on Etsy called "Least Likely 2 Breed"
http://www.leastlikely2breed.etsy.com/ she makes balms for the better enjoyment of parenthood (and some totally rocking G-rated lip & body balms). My personal favorite is "Mother Effers Va-J-J Jelly" http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=12379629
I'm super happy with the way the top turned out, just have to swing by the fabric store to get some buttons to cover and it's done! Next, I'm making Devon a dress out of this amazing bright green eyelet cotton that I was lucky enough to stumble upon.

~ Happy Father's Day, Dad! ~

Chess has always, and will always remind me of my dad. Not only is he an avid (and a ranked) chess player, but his personality is not unlike the game itself. It is a very intellectual game, about strategy and competition. Benjamin Franklin wrote a very interesting article called "The Morals of Chess" in which he praises the social and intellectual development that chess inspires.

"The Game of Chess is not merely an idle amusement; several very valuable qualities of the mind, useful in the course of human life, are to be acquired and strengthened by it, so as to become habits ready on all occasions, for life is a kind of Chess, in which we have often points to gain, and competitors or adversaries to contend with, and in which there is a vast variety of good and ill events that are, in some degree, the effect of prudence, or the want of it"
My dad has always tried to teach me good habits, morals, and values in life. Unfortunately, a lot of his efforts were destined to be in vain (me being the very rebellious one in the family) I guess I was always the type to learn by mistake, much to my fathers chagrin. Still through it all, he continues to be the responsible and supportive dad that is full of information as he always has been, and I love him for that! Happy Fathers Day, dad! (I bet your playing chess right now)

~ Happy Birthday, Mom! ~

Happy Birthday, Mom! I wish we could be there to celebrate with you and I hope that your day is as wonderful and beautiful as you are :)
It's been hard to keep up with posts lately, I went from bored to super busy really fast. I have a new client that I'm designing women's knits for again and I've been doing a lot of custom work on Etsy, all this plus being a full time mom to Devon has got me in whirlwind mode (but I secretly love it!)

7.6.08

~ Folklore Cuffed Tunic ~

Devon's hanging out in our brand new "Folklore Cuffed Tunic" It's slightly on the large side, but I made it to fit 12m (I want her to be able to wear it when her grandma and grandpa come back to visit) I'm waiting to post the tunic on Etsy when I have our box-pleated denim skirt completed (hopefully tomorrow) then I'll re shoot the tunic and the new skirt together :)

~ Bik Wu's New Do ~

The little lion is back! Bik Wu is always such a mess, it was getting to the point where I hardly wanted him around Devon at all. A much needed trip to the groomers fixed that problem. What a little tough guy! You can barely see our other dog, Billy (behind Devon) I could'nt get him to stop cleaning himself, which is why he got to stay home while Bik was at the groomers all day.

I'm also dying to get one of her "little books" which are basically super tiny, bound, blank journals with Helis' simply adorable artwork gracing the covers.

My very favorite is the "Little Book about Naughty Girls"
